A Curious Case of Multiple Hat Disorder

Just Because I’m A Morning Person Doesn’t Mean My Kids Are

I am up by 5:30 or 6:00 am most days. If I had my way, school would start by 7:00 am! I know that is not realistic and we have never even attempted it. We usually do our morning lists and breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 and start school promptly at 8:30 so we can strive to finish by lunch time.

Yesterday was different though. I was on day 3 of a cold and my husband had a client meeting him at the house. Instead of rushing to start school on time we leisurely cleaned the house, the kids had breakfast, I played with the baby, and then the girls played happily in their room. There was no rushing to start just so we could finish before noon. I even drove to Dunkin Donuts for coffee before Dustin had to start work.

I put Malachi down for a nap and we didn’t start school till 11. (With the exception of my 3rd grader doing her reading right after breakfast) We finished right around 2:45 and everyone had sooo much peace. That one tweak to our schedule changed it all. I had been noticing that my new kindergartener hasn’t adjusted well to our school schedule and I think this might help. School first thing in the morning just isn’t her thing.

Just another reason why I love homeschool…the freedom to make our own schedule and the freedom to change it! Finding what works for your family is everyone’s goal and what works for us might not work for you and that is ok!
